Polígono Sur is a neighborhood located in the southern part of the city of Seville, Spain. It is also known as “Las Tres Mil Viviendas” (The Three Thousand Homes).
Its construction was granted by the Ministry of Housing to the Seville City Council in 1968, and it was completed in 1977. It is one of the most disadvantaged neighborhoods in Spain and faces significant socio-economic problems.
They have a 26% illiteracy rate among its adult population. It has the lowest average net income per year, with 5,666 euros per inhabitant. It is worth noting the minimal investment from the authorities, linked to the lack of interest in voting by its residents.
Nevertheless, it is the birthplace of great artists such as the Amador brothers -Pata Negra or Raimundo Amador, individually-, La Tana, Juana la del Revuelo, or Carlos Heredia, among others. In addition, the gypsy joy, pride, and respect do not leave any non-gypsy indifferent.
